Cops arrest suspect for threatening the King

-

A 35-year-old man has been detained over an Instagram post containing a death threat against the Yang di-pertuan Agong in connection with the appointment of the next prime minister.

Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Arjunaidi Mohamed said the Instagram post also labelled a certain race as corrupt while calling for a demonstration to be held to protest the King’s power to appoint the next prime minister.

“We detained the suspect at about 10.30pm in Kajang on Tuesday. He has been remanded until Friday,” he said when contacted yesterday.

The case has been classified under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948 and Section 233 of the Communication and Multimedia Act 1998, he added.

“We advise the people to always abide by the law. They should also cherish the principles of the ‘Rukun Negara’ to preserve the unity and harmony among people of various races and religions in the country.”

Comm Arjunaidi warned the public that police would not compromise on taking action against anyone who threatens public order and safety.

“Stern action will be taken against the culprits,” he said.
