Penang consumers urged to prepare for water disruption

-

Water cuts in several areas on mainland Penang next month are unavoidable when valve replacement works are done at the Sungai Dua Water Treatment Plant (WTP).

Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow urged consumers in the affected areas to be prepared and stock up on water throughout the water disruption period, which will be from 10pm on Dec 2 to 10pm on Dec 4.

He said the scheduled maintenance for the replacement of valves at the Sungai Dua WTP has to be done to enable the Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP) to continue to provide service to consumers.

“We hope and appreciate that water users understand that the replacement works are necessary. We will try our best to get it done the soonest possible, in less than 48 hours.

“We appeal to consumers to store enough water for the period,” Chow told reporters in a press conference at the state assembly building in Lebuh Light here yesterday.

PBAPP, in a statement yesterday, said water supply to almost 200,000 users on mainland Penang would be disrupted.

“Besides facilitating valve replacement works, PBAPP will also carry out repair works of a 1,200mm diameter pipe in Permatang Ara and maintenance work by Tenaga Nasional Bhd at Bukit Minyak Pump House.

“A total of 197,852 water accounts from three districts of northern Seberang Prai, central Seberang Prai and southern Seberang Prai will be affected by the scheduled water supply interruption,” the statement read.
