Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim
> Born on August 10, 1947 in Penang. > Went to the Malay College Kuala Kangsar before getting a bachelor's degree in Malay Studies from Universiti Malaya.
> Received his Master’s in Literature from UM while in prison from 1974 to 1975 when he was detained as a youth leader under the now-repealed Internal Security Act.
> Joined Umno in 1982 and a year later became the Culture, Youth and Sports Minister, in 1983.
> He was Agriculture Minister in 1984, Education Minister in 1986 and Finance Minister in 1991.
> Appointed as the 7th deputy prime minister in 1993.
> He was acting prime minister for two months in 1997.
> Fired from Cabinet and expelled from Umno in 1998. He was also arrested and was charged with corruption.
> Sentenced to 15 years’ jail for corruption and sodomy in 1999.
> His wife Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail headed the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) which was formed in 2003. > In 2004, the Federal Court overturned his conviction.
> Won the Permatang Pauh by-election in 2008 and returned to Parliament as Opposition leader.
> Rearrested by the police the same year over a sodomy allegation by his former aide. He pleaded not guilty to ‘unnatural sex’ sodomy charge.
> The Federal Court upheld the sodomy conviction in 2015. Sentenced to five years in prison.
> Granted a royal pardon by the King in 2018.
> Won the Port Dickson seat in 2018. > Won the Tambun parliamentary seat in GE15.
> Appointed as 10th Prime Minister on Nov 24.
