Teams to monitor campaign activities

-

Two enforcement teams have been assigned to monitor campaign activities at the Padang Serai and Tioman elections, says the Election Commission.

EC chairman Tan Sri Abdul Ghani Salleh hoped that campaigning activities will be peaceful and in accordance with regulations.

The campaign period ends at 11.59pm on Dec 6, 2022, he said, Bernama reported.

He said campaign materials that contain words that can arouse ill feelings, discontent or have racial elements and touch on religious sensitivities or incite animosity are not allowed.

The nomination process for the 15th General Election (GE15) for the Padang Serai and Tioman seats ended at 10am yesterday.

One new nomination paper was submitted by a Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate for the Padang Serai parliamentary seat and a candidate from Perikatan Nasional (PN) for the Tioman state seat.

Polling for GE15 in both constituencies was postponed following the death of Pakatan candidate in Padang Serai namely M. Karupaiya and Perikatan’s candidate Md Yunus Ramli for the Tioman state seat.

Lawyer Dr Mohamad Sofee Razak is the Pakatan candidate for the Padang Serai parliamentary seat while Perikatan has named Nor Idayu Hashim as its candidate for the Tioman state seat.

The EC has set polling for both constituencies to be held simultaneously on Dec 7 and early voting on Dec 3.
