Amir stays on track for Masters title

- By KHOO JIAN TENG

Golfer Amir Nazrin hopes to win a title before he retires next year.

And the 25-year-old seemed to be on the right track to achieving it as he hung on to his top position on the second day of the Selangor Masters at the Seri Selangor Golf Club yesterday.

He shared the lead with Thailand’s Denwit Boriboonsub on five-under 137 after carding oneover 72 in the Asian Development Tour event.

Amir was the leader after the first round on Wednesday following a sparkling six-under 65.

“I’ve been a pro for four years now but I plan to retire next year,” said Amir, who will be playing in his final two tournaments in the Saudi Open at Riyadh Golf Club from Dec 8-10 and Taifong Open in Taiwan from Dec 22-25.

“If I don’t get to go for another tour, I’ll retire. I’ve to accept it and move on with my life.”

Amir hopes he will not run out of gas in the remaining two rounds.

“It was a tough day today (yesterday), the wind was strong and it was very hot,” said Amir.

“It hampered my progress in the last hole, but I’ll be better tomorrow (today).

“I’ll be sticking to my game plan and use my three-iron tees and pick up where I left off,” he added.

Malaysia’s Edven Ying, Australia’s Jack Murdoch and Gregory Foo of Singapore are in second spot on four-under 138.
