Make good on your promises, Anwar and govt urged

-

MPS from across the political divide must heed the will of the rakyat and rise above factional politics to reform and govern the country together, says Transparency International Malaysia (TI-M).

Its president Dr Muhammad Mohan called upon Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and the government to make good on their manifestos without excuses, delays or U-turns.

The manifesto should be fulfilled especially those that have been delayed due to Pakatan Harapan’s previous removal from the government after the Sheraton Move, he said in a statement yesterday.

While congratulating Anwar on his appointment as the 10th Prime Minister of Malaysia, Muhammad said the key anticorruption and governance reforms that must be implemented include the Political Financing Act, the separation of powers of the Attorney General’s Chamber and Public Prosecutor, and public asset declarations for all elected representatives and senior government officials.

Muhammad added that the appointment of the heads of agencies by a Parliamentary Select Committee and amendments to the Whistle Blower Protection Act should also be implemented.

Meanwhile, Myanmar Ethnic Rohingya Human Rights Organisation Malaysia president Zafar Ahmad Abdul Ghani, in a separate statement, said the new government is crucial in elevating Malaysia to a higher level and developing sustainably.

“We hope the new government will continue to engage with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) for refugee protection and resettlement.

“We need your intervention on this, and resettlement countries should increase their quota as there is no sign that we can return home very soon,” he said. — Bernama
