Muhyiddin: We’ll play the role of Opposition
KUALA LUMPUR: Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin (pic) congratulated Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on his appointment as Prime Minister while announcing that Perikatan Nasional would play its role as the Opposition in Parliament.
“With the Federal Government led by Pakatan Harapan, Perikatan will play a check-and-balance role by being the voice of the people in line with the principles of parliamentary democracy,” said the Perikatan chairman in a Facebook post.
Muhyiddin added that moving forward, Perikatan will continue the struggle for the well-being of the people and the prosperity of the country.
On Thursday, Anwar took his oath of office before Yang di-pertuan Agong Al-sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-mustafa Billah Shah at Dewan Singgahsana Kecil, Istana Negara.
Former two-time prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad also congratulated his former deputy and long-time adversary.
In a tweet yesterday, the Pejuang chairman wrote: “I congratulate Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on his appointment as the 10th Prime Minister of Malaysia. Best wishes.”
Khairy Jamaluddin also congratulated Anwar, while acknowledging the outcome was not what he had expected.
The former Health Minister said he knew of the tough decisions awaiting the new premier and that he wished Anwar and his team all the best in navigating the challenges in the next few years.
“As the dust settles after a long week, it is important that the nation has some clarity about where we go next.
“The results may not be what I hoped for, but the nation must always come first,” he wrote on Instagram yesterday.
