-

BAHAU: Two friends were killed when their motorcycle collided head-on with a car in Felda Palong.

Jempol OCPD Supt Hoo Chang Hook said the victims were heading towards Palong 7,8 along the main road when the accident happened at about 9.30pm on Thursday.

The motorcyclist was identified as Sariffudin Rozali, 35, from Felda Palong 8 while his female pillion rider was Azamatul Alia Ismail, 28, from Felda Palong 7.

Both died on the spot from severe injuries.

“Preliminary investigations showed that the 26-year-old car driver was overtaking another car along a double line stretch when he crashed into the motorcycle.

“The cause of the accident may have been negligence on the part of the driver,” he said.

The driver from Jertih, Terengganu, suffered injuries to his right arm, said Supt Hoo.

A urine test conducted on the driver for substance abuse returned negative. The man has since been detained to assist in the probe.

Police applied for an order to remand the driver yesterday, said Supt Hoo.

The victims’ remains were sent to Hospital Jempol for a post-mortem. The case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
