-

A FORESTRY official in Telangana, India, who was investigating illegal logging, had his throat slit in a brutal killing, Makkal Osai reported.

Seenivasa Rao was apparently in charge of an area known as Kondala, which has a large indigenous population doing farming in the hilly area.

He had found that some unknown persons had been carrying out illegal logging of some valuable tree species and warned them to cease their activities.

However, the illegal loggers allegedly captured the father-of-one and slit his throat before dumping his body in the forest.

The authorities are investigating the murder, which shocked locals.

> Youngsters from several NGOS and local community groups in Teluk Intan, Perak, came together to help a woman bury her deceased sister, Makkal Osai also reported.

K. Hema said her sister M. Mariyayi, 42, who had been suffering from diabetes and had her leg amputated several years ago, died at Hospital Teluk Intan on Wednesday.

Mariyayi’s husband, said Hema, was also unwell and their four children were schooling, which meant the family was struggling financially.

Hema said she was thankful to all those who helped her in giving her sister a proper send-off.
