SAPP sticks with PN but endorses support for GRS

-

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP), a member of Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), will be following Perikatan Nasional’s decision to remain in the Opposition, says its president Datuk Seri Yong Teck Lee.

He said the SAPP supreme council endorsed the decision to remain in Perikatan.

“The supreme council has reaffirmed its membership in Perikatan, which has pledged to play the role of check and balance at the federal level,” he said in a statement yesterday.

However, he said SAPP also supported GRS’ decision to back Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s unity government.

SAPP made the decision after GRS, led by the Sabah chapter of Bersatu and its partners Sabah STAR and Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS), moved to support Anwar.

PBS is not a member of Perikatan while Sabah Bersatu is led by Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

Yong, who is a nominated assemblyman, is part of the Grs-barisan Nasional state government.

SAPP unsuccessfully contested the Sandakan parliamentary seat on a GRS ticket.
