The Star Malaysia

It’s been an incredible year

and it’s just about to get a whole lot better

- KELLY TAN

I can’t believe my ninth LPGA Tour season has already come to an end.

This was a BIG year for me with my career as well as my personal life.

Looking back a year ago I had just gone through the gruelling LPGA Q-series to improve my status on tour.

Last season I finished 148th on the Race to the CME Globe standings, and this year I was able to improve by almost 80 spots to finish the season 67th.

I was able to achieve a careerhigh second place finish in the (northern hemisphere) summer with my best friend Matilda Castren, who will also be my maid of honour at my wedding.

I also competed in my first Match Play tournament in Las Vegas – just to share two of my highlights this season.

As professionals, we are always trying to improve the little things, but in the end, it’s so much about confidence and consistency.

I was also so excited to see this past week three young Malaysian talents – Alyaa (Abdulghany), Natasha (Oon) and Ashley (Lau) competing in the second stage of Qualifying School, which is always something that makes me proud and hopeful that one day there will be more Malaysians competing on the LPGA Tour.

It’s such a mental grind, and I am learning to stay patient with all the pressures around, and I am so proud that Ashley was able to advance to the final LPGA Q-series, in early December.

I’ll be watching her closely and rooting for her success, as it’s been a dream of mine for the last nine years to have another Malaysian competing with me on the LPGA, flying our Jalur Gemilang.

I know that all three of these ladies will continue to make Malaysia as proud as ever.

I know how stressful competing on the golf course each week can be, and now I have also been dealing with all the challenges of planning a wedding.

I feel I have been able to get everything ready, and with less than a month before the big day, I am patiently waiting for my family’s visitor visas to travel to Canada.

We have been waiting for over six months now and praying every day that my family will be able to travel to be at my wedding.

I have prepared almost everything else and will be travelling to San Diego this weekend to make final alterations to my wedding dress.

To say I am excited is an understatement. I’m looking forward to Dusty’s and my special day and putting the finishing touches on an incredible 2022.

I believe my family will make it, and we will enjoy a cold and white Christmas wedding in Canada.

Thank you all for the love and support, and I can’t wait to see you all in 2023.
