PCS: Sabah parties need to create unified structure

-

Sabah needs to create a united political structure in the interest of the state, says Parti Cinta Sabah (PCS).

Its deputy president Datuk James Ligunjang said GE15 showed how fractious and ingenious Sabah leaders were in trying to position themselves to the political alignment at the federal level.

He said they did this with “dismal clout and irrelevance” in pursuing the interests of the state in accordance with the terms agreed to in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

Ligunjang also claimed that there was no single voice from leaders here who commanded the respect of Sabahans when it came to the relationship with federal leaders and government.

“The leaders of Sabah must begin to reflect on unity and move forward in unison to serve the interests of Sabah.

“It is time for Sabah to organise itself into a formidable political structure to ensure the interests of the state is better served in accordance with the terms agreed in MA63,” he said in a statement yesterday.

He said Sabah could create a new vision for the state and its people if leaders like Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal, Datuk Seri Anifah Aman, Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan and Datuk Yong Teck Lee could sit down and seriously talk about a “United Sabah”.

“Unless and until we can merge all the local parties in Sabah into one unit, the future of Sabah will be as fractious as splintered glass,” Ligunjang said.
