Police fire shots at car before nabbing three

PARIT BUNTAR: Four suspects in a car rammed into a police vehicle and tried to attack the policemen when cornerned here, minutes after a man was robbed.

Police had to fire shots at the fleeing car before three suspects were arrested. The fourth managed to escape after the car was stopped.

Perak police chief Comm Datuk Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said a police patrol car team noticed a driver in a Proton Waja behaving suspicious­ly at about 4pm on Sunday in Parit Buntar.

He added that the policemen trailed the car and nabbed three men armed with machetes and a parang.

“The officers blocked the car and tried to arrest the suspects, but they reacted by charging at the policemen with their weapons.

“The driver also rammed into the police car in an attempt to escape. To stop the suspects from escaping, police fired shots at the fleeing car,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Comm Mohd Yusri said three suspects aged between 47 and 63 were detained while another suspect managed to escape.

He added it was believed that the suspects had earlier robbed a man who supplied vegetables to the Parit Buntar market.

The man suffered a loss of RM15,000 and a cut on his wrist. The robbers also took his necklace.
