Food too pricey at Pesta Pulau Pinang, say visitors
Food and beverage sellers at the popular year-end Pesta Pulau Pinang have been told to reduce their prices, following complaints from visitors.
The carnival’s masterplan committee senior manager Refnaldy Azuardi said he had taken note of complaints on social media and spoken with the traders.
“Prices of raw material have increased but they should not try to profiteer. Some traders even failed to display price tags clearly and I have instructed them to rectify this immediately.
“With rental charges for stalls being maintained, traders should try to keep their prices in check,” he said, adding that the rental was kept at RM3,500 for 36 days as when the carnival was last held in 2019.
Businessman Peter Wong, 57, said he went to the food court with a friend and both ordered chicken rice.
“They were priced at RM10 and RM15 while a cup of hot chocolate was priced at RM7,” he said when met on Monday night.
Netizens also complained about expensive stall game prices, saying a game token was now priced at RM5 compared to RM2 in 2019.
