I have on a number of occasions needed to send mail to the United Kingdom. The last one I posted a few days ago was to inform my military pension provider that I was alive and well and wished to continue to have my pension deposited into my Malaysian account. Just as a matter of interest, I asked the counter clerk how long it would take the letter to get to the UK. You can imagine my astonishment when she told me two weeks. This will have consequences on my pension, which is due on the 24th of each month. Can someone explain why it takes so long for a letter from here to get to the UK? – Martin D. Bishop, Sungai Buloh

I read with grave concern the report on the untimely death of the 11-year-old girl in Kajang, Selangor, “Girl, 11, allegedly abused to death by stepfather” (The Star, Nov 25; online at https://bit.ly/3vhwmlp). A post-mortem revealed that she was a victim of abuse, and her stepfather has been detained for investigation. The police has also urged any individual who has information about the incident to contact the closest police station or the investigating officer. I strongly feel neighbours can help to prevent such tragedies. Most of them are aware to some extent of the goings-on or strange behaviour of their immediate neighbours, like constant quarrelling, screaming at unearthly hours, ill-treatment of step children, cruelty to the elderly and so on. If neighbours shy away from reporting these incidents, who knows one day their own loved ones could be a victim of such human monsters. – S. Sundareson, Petaling Jaya

> Service interrupted

While Astro Go offers viewing convenience to subscribers, the service regularly experiences breakdowns during live football matches. The situation is no better with the current World Cup matches. We hope Astro will rectify the constant interruption in its live feed for the rest of the tournament.

> Enough is enough

I am really sick of politicians making baseless accusations especially in the context of race and religion. Can they stop such nonsense?

> Confidence vote

I think a unity government is the best to bring stability to our country. The voters did their duty, but there was no outright winner among the contesting political coalitions. We must also be grateful to the Yang di-pertuan Agong for this outcome. I am confident that Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will get the support he needs on his position as prime minister when Parliament meets on Dec 19. – Bulbir Singh, Seremban

> Govern for all Malaysians

Like the others before him, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has promised that he will be PM for all Malaysians. We pray that this will be so and wish him and the new unity government all the best.
