JAYA: Rider Ahmad Afif Amran (pic) is looking to celebrate his crowning glory in the CP150 category in the season finale round of the Petronas Malaysian Cub Prix Championship in Batu Kawan, Penang, this Saturday.

Afif of Petronas Sprinta Yamaha – CKJ Racing has won four races this season and a sixth place finish in round 9 of the championship at Sepang last month was enough for the Kemaman-born rider to win the overall CP150 title.

Afif collected 157 points to take an unassailable lead with one race to spare.

Azroy Hakeem Anuar of Honda Yuzy Idemitsu Team is currently in second spot with 128 points while Nazirul Izzat Bahauddin of Petronas Sprinta Yamaha Maju Motor is third with 126 points.

“This year has been a great challenge for me especially with the new ruling on the speed limit for bikes,” said Afif.

“Because of that, the team have to constantly find a new set-up for the machine and fine tune in each round.

“It becomes more tricky at various different circuits.

“This is one of the reasons why I chose to work at the team’s workshop so that I could understand the machine and the engine better.

“With the knowledge that I have gained, I was able to provide better and detailed information to the mechanics. I’ve also learnt to always have a positive thought no matter what’s the situation. I’m hopeful of getting good results for this weekend,” said Afif, who was also the CP150 winner in 2018 and 2019.

Speaking on his future, Afif said: “I will continue as usual with my fitness training and if I am given the opportunity to move to a better level, I will definitely give it a shot.

“I just want to thank my family who has been my pillar of strength. They have given me all the motivation that I need to get to where I am today.”
