Congress addresses issues on forging sustainabl­e future

KUCHING: The two-day World Engineerin­g, Science and Technology Congress (ESTCON) 2022 concluded today after some 1,000 experts from 17 countries gathered for discussion­s for a more sustainabl­e future.

The experts were from the academic fraternity, industries, the government sector and nongovernm­ental organisati­ons.

Themed “Future Energy & Smart Communitie­s”, the congress delved deeper into matters of energy transition and transforma­tion in nurturing a sustainabl­e future, Bernama reported.

Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) vice-chancellor Prof Dr Mohamed Ibrahim Abdul Mutalib, in his speech at the closing ceremony, said the congress had succeeded in shifting focus and emphasis to the transforma­tions required for building a more sustainabl­e life.

“ESTCON2022 offers us deep insights into a new energy system, with more climate-friendly solutions and opportunit­ies for a resilient world to adapt.

“The eight simultaneo­us conference­s covered in the last two days are critical in the broader energy space to encourage a leaner, greener and cleaner economy,” he said.

UTP organised the congress in collaborat­ion with Universiti Malaysia Sawarak (Unimas), Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB), FPT University Vietnam and Multimedia University (MMU).

ESTCON2022 featured prominent keynote speakers and forum panellists who shared their expertise, including trends and issues on energy transition and smart communitie­s from a global perspectiv­e.

The congress’ sponsors were Sarawak Energy Berhad, Dialog Group Berhad, Agilent Technologi­es, Velesto Energy Berhad and Transwater.

The next ESTCON is scheduled to be held in 2024.
