Former e-hailing driver caught with syabu worth rm6.14mil
SHAH ALAM: A former e-hailing driver earned between RM7,000 and RM8,000 monthly moonlighting as a drug distributor.
The 49-year-old man was caught with syabu worth over Rm6.14mil after police raided a house at Bandar Sunway recently.
State Deputy police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Sasikala Devi Subramaniam said police from the Subang Jaya Narcotic Crime Investigation Department raided the premises around 3pm on Nov 30.
“We found over 170.58kg of methamphetamines in 166 plastic packets, in which a portion was packed as refined Chinese tea,” she told reporters at the state police headquarters yesterday.
DCP Sasikala Devi said the suspect had been actively distributing drugs around the Klang Valley for over two months.
“He has a past record for illegal gambling-related offence,” she said, adding that police also seized a Honda car from the suspect.
Police have obtained a seven-day remand order on the suspect, beginning Dec 1.
DCP Sasikala Devi said the drug came from overseas.
As the suspect was recruited online by a syndicate, she urged the public to be careful when seeking for jobs via the social media, particularly those that promised a high salary.
She also urged those with information on illegal activities to contact the Selangor police hotline at 03-2052 9999.
In an unrelated case, an unemployed man was charged in the Magistrate’s Court in Melaka with trafficking in 23.1kg of syabu.
Lau Siong Poh, 50, nodded after the charge was read out before Magistrate Nabilah Nizam.
No plea was recorded, Bernama reported.
He was charged with trafficking in the drug at 12.10am last Nov 11 at Jalan Baiduri 8, Pulau Melaka, Melaka Tengah.
The charge, framed under Section 39B (1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act, provides the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.
Deputy public prosecutor Aliff Asraf Anuar Sharuddin prosecuted, while Lau was unrepresented.
The court set Jan 16 for mention.
