Welder charged with murdering senior citizen

A 51-year-old welder was charged in the Magistrate’s Court with murdering a senior citizen at a parking area of a supermarke­t.

Chin Ngit Soon stood before Magistrate Syahrul Sazly Md Sain in the dock yesterday to hear the charge against him read in Cantonese.

No plea was recorded as murder cases are under the jurisdicti­on of the High Court.

According to the charge sheet, Chin allegedly murdered Wong Kim Miew, 71, at 11.50pm on Nov 25.

Chin is accused of committing the offence at the parking area of a supermarke­t in Bandar Tun Hussein Onn, Batu 9 Cheras here.

He was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code and faces the death sentence upon conviction.

Chin was unrepresen­ted. Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurul Husna Amran prosecuted.

The case is fixed for mention on Jan 13.

On Nov 26, the police said in a statement that a 45-year-old woman and her husband, aged 51, were arrested in connection with the murder of a 71-year-old man who was allegedly stabbed to death outside a supermarke­t due to jealousy.

Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Zaid Hassan said police were notified of the fatal stabbing on Nov 25 and the arrests were made the following day.

“A report was lodged by a medical officer after the victim was brought to Hospital Serdang by a female friend at 6.30pm.

“The victim suffered injuries to the shoulders and thigh areas due to the stabbing,” he said.

The victim was pronounced dead by the hospital at 11.05pm.
