Indie shuttlers Peng Soonyee See need not worry as Protech is here

PETALING JAYA: A new sponsorship deal has given independent mixed doubles pair Chan Peng Soon-cheah Yee See a timely boost in their bid to qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Peng Soon-yee See will be supported by online store Protech Sports in their journey to make the cut for the Olympics.

The pair had left the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) last month to turn independent after their partnership failed to take off.

Despite the tough task ahead of them, Peng Soon-yee See, who are ranked No. 47 in the world are not giving up on reaching the Olympics.

“We are hoping to qualify for the Olympics. We know that we have a long road ahead of us but this is our target,” said Peng Soon.

The 34-year-old is out to make his fourth appearance at the Olympics while Yee See is bidding to play in her first.

The duo have their work cut out for them as they will have to compete with fellow independents Tan Kian Meng-lai Pei Jing (world No. 8) and Goh Soon Huat-shevon Lai Jemie (No. 11) for a spot in the Olympics.

The Olympic qualifying period starts next May.

Peng Soon-yee See have joined Kian Meng-pei Jing and Soon Huat-shevon for training.

Their bid to fight for a spot in the Olympics will begin in the Thailand Masters in Bangkok from Jan 31-Feb 5.
