M’sian Bar set to engage new law minister

-

KUALA LUMPUR: The government’s approach to be resolute on good governance should also include institutional reforms, says Malaysian Bar president Karen Cheah Yee Lyn.

“Good governance includes the strengthening of institutions and this falls under the purview of the new Minister of Law and Institutional Reform, Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said.”

Cheah said the Malaysian Bar hoped to be able to schedule an appointment with the minister soon.

“This is so that we can talk about the reforms that we have in mind. Let’s see which are the ones that are most urgent and we can try to move those along,” she added.

Cheah said she was also looking forward to working with Azalina again and hoped to engage with her directly.

“We have worked with her in previous years and hopefully we can move some of the reforms that are urgent and critical at present,” she noted.

Azalina is one of the 28 ministers in the Cabinet announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Friday.
