Accept reality, says Zahid

‘Pn should stop whining and be an authoritative opposition’

Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and his Perikatan Nasional allies should learn to be an authoritative Opposition instead of “whining” about their situation, says Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

He claimed that Muhyiddin, who is Perikatan chairman, had not been able to accept the fact that he had failed to form the government and become the Prime Minister.

“Also, learn to accept the process and the decision of the Yang di-pertuan Agong and the Conference of Rulers,” he said in a Facebook post.

Ahmad Zahid stressed that the current administration was “not a Pakatan Harapan government”.

“Instead, it is a unity government. It is the outcome from the combination of the largest party with other parties that won the elections; they are working with other parties to build the country and govern it better than previous governments,” he said.

Ahmad Zahid, who is Barisan Nasional chairman, also countered Muhyiddin’s criticism of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for assuming the Finance Minister’s post.

“Anwar is known to be a high achiever who had managed Malaysia’s finances and economy with a surplus budget, which meant that income exceeded national expenditure,” he said.

“He had also been recognised as the world’s best Finance Minister by Euromoney magazine and Asia’s Best Finance Minister by Asiamoney magazine.”

Malaysia, he said, was known as an Asian Tiger when Anwar was the Finance Minister.

“Foreign investors are surely more confident to invest (here) with Anwar holding the Finance Minister position,” he said.

On Saturday, Muhyiddin said Anwar had reneged on promises, made during GE15, to provide good governance.

He described Anwar’s Cabinet as “the most disappointing line-up in the country’s history”, citing the case of Ahmad Zahid, who has a slew of court charges related to corruption, breach of trust and money laundering.
