Bank celebrates financial literacy among Asean kids
Awards given to schools, teachers, families across region
Maybank Cambodia hosted the second Maybank Regional Financial Education Excellence (Regional Finex) awards ceremony in Phnom Penh, following the first edition which was held in Malaysia in 2022.
The awards are part of the bank’s mission to enhance financial literacy across asean, especially among the younger generation, via its Cashville kidz (CVK) financial literacy programme.
Maybank Group and Maybank Foundation chairman Tan Sri Zamzamzairani Mohd Isa said, “In line with our aim to humanise financial services, we are expanding around the region to empower diverse communities.”
Maybank’s CVK, developed in partnership with leading financial literacy education organisation Moneytree asia-pacific, aims to educate schoolchildren between the ages of nine and 12 via a fun animated series.
Maybank Cambodia chief executive officer Rath Sophoan said, “The programme makes it exciting and easy for children to become financially savvy.
“The content is customised to suit each country’s lingo and culture while keeping up with the latest digital trends.”
CVK has positively impacted more than 330,000 schoolchildren and trained 5,270 teachers in 1,270 schools Malaysia, the Philippines, Cambodia, Indonesia, Myanmar, Singapore and Vietnam.
It is accorded co-curriculum status by Malaysia’s Education Ministry and held in collaboration with national bank of Cambodia (nbc), Cambodia’s education, youth and sports ministry, Central bank of the Philippines and department of education Philippines.
It is also supported by Indonesia’s education and culture ministry.
The ceremony featured nominees from Malaysia, Cambodia, Indonesia, the Philippines and Vietnam in four main categories.
The best School award recognised schools that displayed exemplary leadership in driving the financial literacy agenda.
The winners were Sekolah kebangsaan Lavender Heights, negri Sembilan (Malaysia), baktouk Primary School, Veal Vong Province (Cambodia), Sekolah Dasar negeri Rawamangun 12 Pagi, Jakarta (Indonesia), bagumbong Elementary School, Caloocan (the Philippines) and archimedes Dong anh School, Hanoi (Vietnam).
The best Educator award winner for Malaysia was nurul asyiqin Md Isa from Sekolah kebangsaan Lavender Heights.
The other winners were but Channa from Takeo krong Primary School (Cambodia), atikah Zubair Usman from Madrasah Ibtidaiyah al-muzayyanah (Indonesia), Ellaine May Rosales from bagumbong Elementary School (the Philippines) and bui Hoai anh from archimedes Dong anh School (Vietnam).
nur Hana Zahra Mohd norazmi from Sekolah kebangsaan Puncak alam 2, Selangor, bagged the best Student award for Malaysia.
The other top students were Varith Chanpisey from Veal Vong Primary School, kampong Cham Province (Cambodia), Made anindita Putri Maharani from Sekolah Dasar negeri Rawamangun 12 Pagi, Jakarta (Indonesia), Santina Miguelle bendo from Southville International School and Colleges, Las Pinas (the Philippines) and nguyen nam khanh from Phenikaa School, Hanoi (Vietnam).
awards were also given out to families who showed a deep commitment to improving their financial standing through the CVK Family budgeting programme.
The winners were the families of Sarah bakhtiar (Malaysia), Pov Pisey (Cambodia), Mochammad Irwan Fachrudin (Indonesia), Roel Pengson (the Philippines) and Le Thi Thu (Vietnam).
The Maybank Regional Finex 2023 awards ceremony was attended by top Cambodian leaders including senior minister in charge of special missions Dr Sok Siphana, nbc deputy governor yim Leat, education, youth and sports ministry undersecretary Dr Sann Vathana as well as foreign affairs and international cooperation ministry director-general of asean yeap Samnang.
also present were ambassador of Malaysia to Cambodia Datuk Eldeen Husaini Mohd Hashim, Moneytree asia Pacific chief executive officer Michael Reyes and Maybank’s top management.
In the last decade, Maybank Foundation has established itself as a regional social impact organisation, touching more than 460,000 lives since 2013.
This has led to it being accorded asean accreditation.
