> Despite getting good grades for Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM), a 21-year-old from Jerantut, Pahang turned down tertiary education because she has “fallen in love with growing grapes”.

Sharifah Irdina Syeda Norhaimi joined her father’s grape cultivation project at an agricultural centre as a tour guide, reported Utusan Malaysia.

“I guide tourists and explain the planting and care techniques of grapes, which have long been considered cold-season crops,” she said.

The grape enthusiast is the youngest of four siblings.

She said this career has become her passion. “Most of the tourists who come here are amazed and never expected that grapes could thrive in a tropical country like Malaysia,” she added.

> Singer Melly Goeslaw is unperturbed by netizens’ negative comments about her recent award win, Berita Harian reported.

Goeslaw, whose real name is Melliana Cessy Goeslaw, won the Hall Of Fame trophy at the Gempak Most Wanted Awards 2023 (GMWA23) event.

However, she was criticised by fans because they believed that many local artists were more deserving of the trophy.

“I am not interested in thinking about their criticism. Personally, I am open to new and different things. I also respect differences of opinion,” she said.

At the same time, Goeslaw wants to focus on her career.

“I don’t read comments. I just create. I can control what comes out of me, my life and career.

“However, we cannot control other people. For me, as long as what I do is right and inspires many people, good things will come,” she said.
