Almost 1,000 waiting for PPR units in silver state

ABOUT 950 people are on the reserve list for People’s Housing Programme (PPR) units in Perak, says state housing committee chairman Sandrea ng.

She said many were on the list because of high demand for low-cost homes.

She disclosed that there were 16 PPR projects in the state, with 2,876 units.

“to maintain PPR as a transit home to help more people and to shorten waiting times, it has been agreed that the rental rate will be increased each time the contract is renewed every two years.

“the decision came into force on Jan 1 this year,” she said when replying to Wong Chai Yi (Ph-simpang Pulai) during the question-and-answer session yesterday.

ng said the Perak Housing and Properties Board (LPHP) had formed a task force to look into unpaid rental issues.

“When tenants disregard notices sent to them, the task force will hold a face-to-face consultation session.

“in 2023, this effort resulted in the collection of about Rm1.4mil in arrears, compared to about RM919,000 that was collected the prior year,” she said, adding that the last resort was to take legal action.

ng said the state had allocated Rm4.3mil last year to LPHP to manage PPR, which included maintenance and cleanliness works.

She said the Housing and local government Ministry had also approved Rm7.7mil for PPR maintenance.

“these allocations are for infrastructure and roof repairs, paint job and lift maintenance.

“it also enabled five lifts to be replaced at Seri Kepayang Flats in ipoh,” she added.

to an additional question by Mohd Fakhruddin abd aziz (Pn-kamunting) on why a tenant could get evicted from their PPR unit, ng said the reasons included instances of subleasing to third parties or foreigners.
