HAVING A HEART FOR THE ELDERLY
Staff from sungai Petani hospital share Cny joy at nursing home in butterworth
THE Chinese New Year festive spirit was in the air when staff and consultant doctors of Pantai Hospital Sungai Petani visited Comfort Nursing Home in Sungai Dua, Butterworth.
The visit to spread cheer and ensure the elders feel valued and appreciated was made possible under the hospital’s Heartto-heart Programme, a corporate social responsibility initiative which is part of the hospital’s efforts to connect with communities.
The home was decorated by the visitors to create a more festive atmosphere for some 80 residents who were also treated to a hearty lunch.
The home also received almost RM5,000 worth of household items, sponsored by the staff and consultant doctors.
Residents were also given hair cuts and had their nails trimmed.
Pantai Hospital Sungai Petani chief executive officer Tio Bee Chan said such activities could make a huge difference in the lives of the elderly residents, not only in terms of physical well-being but also in providing companionship and a sense of community.
“Every festive season, we curate programmes aimed at fulfilling our social responsibility towards the community.
“Initiatives like these foster a deeper connection between hospital staff, consultants and the local community.”
She added that such programmes not only helped the recipients but also participants by encouraging empathy and a sense of community.
“We would also like to express our gratitude to Kepala Batas Giat Mara students and Bomba Sukarela Association Sungai Petani for their efforts to improve the lives of the elderly,” Tio said.
