FOUR industrial lots and shoplots in Section 16, 21, 23 and 24 in Shah Alam, Selangor risk having its moveable assets seized by the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) if the owners fail to settle total assessment arrears of more than RM500,000.

Mayor Cheremi Tarman said the owners who accumulated total arrears of over RM503,493 had evaded paying their assessment for at least three years, and this was discovered during one of the city council’s operations.

“Our Finance Department’s revenue management section has carried out a confiscation operation for assessment arrears, and it was during the thorough door-to-door checks that the errant owners were discovered,” he said after the city council’s full board meeting.

Cheremi urged all business owners in Shah Alam to settle their arrears immediately to avoid having their moveable assets seized or premises being sealed.

In a separate matter, the mayor expressed his vision to revitalise the city’s landscape as an integral aspect of its enhancement.

He said MBSA has drawn up plans to implement people-centric projects that will see a linear park covering 6.8ha.

“We now have 45 pocket parks, but our plan is to construct another 55 parks of similar size on land that has been overtaken by weeds,” he said, adding that their aim was to have 100 pocket parks in Shah Alam within the next five to 10 years.

Cheremi said MBSA was set to build a linear park under a first phase along the highway that stretched from Persiaran Selangor to the Persiaran Ampuan roundabout, at an estimated cost of Rm7mil, which would include a jogging track and facilities for recreational activities.
