Early exit not a block for Timmy as he adjusts to new world on PBA Tour

PETALING JAYA: National bowler Timmy Tan is adjusting to a whole new world of bowling in the United States.

In his first year competing in the Professional Bowlers Association (PBA) Tour, Timmy has been finding his footing among the best bowlers in the country.

Playing at the PBA Roth/ Holman Doubles Championship recently, the 29-year-old Timmy was paired up with Kim Bolleby of Sweden, the first time he has been paired with the 32-year-old.

“This is the first time I’m paired up with him. Overall, we did well but I had a slow start on the first block,” he said.

The first round of qualifying saw Timmy score 1074 pins with an average of over 214 while Bolleby scored 1100 pins with an average of 220 at the Thunderbowl in Allen Park, Michigan, on Thursday.

They were seated in 32nd after the first qualifying round but a total of 4488 pins with an average of over 224 in the second round saw them finish in 20th place.

“We discussed how we were going to play the lanes and executed our game plan very well.

“We bowled our best but it was not enough to put us in the top 16,” he said.

Only the top 16 bowlers after the qualifying rounds advance to the match rounds.

Despite the early exit, Timmy said things are going well for him overseas as he will continue competing in the PBA World Series of Bowling.

“As I said before, I came here with no expectations because this is only my first year competing in a full season on the PBA Tour.

“The field in PBA compared to Asia is two different worlds. So I’m still learning a lot here and trying my best to improve my game.

“I will continue competing in the World Series and I would say things are going quite well for me,” he said.

At the USBC Masters held at the Suncoast Bowling Center in Las Vegas last month, Timmy ended his campaign in 125th spot with a total score of 3,142 pins and an average of over 209.
