- By S. SAKTESH

National squash player Ng Eain Yow inched a step closer to clinching the German Open title after making his way into the semi-finals of the PSA Bronze level event.

He met India’s Velavan Senthilkumar in the quarter-finals and world No. 22 Eain Yow made quick work of his 59th-ranked opponent to win 11-7, 11-6, 11-4 in Hamburg yesterday.

This was the third time the two players have met each other on the World Tour and Eain Yow has now made it three straight wins against the Indian player.

The most recent win for Eain Yow came at the Squash in the Land tournament in Cleveland last month where Eain Yow won in straight sets as well.

Meanwhile, youngster J. Yasshmita’s run in Hamburg came to an end in the second round after she failed to get past Malak Khafagy of Egypt.

World No. 74 Yasshmita was out-matched by 38th-ranked Khafagy as she won the fixture 15-13, 11-7, 11-5 in 26 minutes on Thursday.

University of West England (UWE) coach John Welton praised the 19-year-old for her improvement.

“Another big step in the right direction. This will be a huge motivation for her I’m sure. Couple of weeks of work and then to Ireland,” he said.

Yasshmita will have some time off as she gears up for the Irish Open on the PSA Challenger calendar from April 23-27.

“She is a pleasure to work with and has worked hard this season. She has embraced the physical side of the game and is working really well in the gym, and you can see the rewards.

“This is an improvement in just six months. There is so much more to come from her and I’m proud to be on the journey with her,” he said.
