Canaries can chirp again – Kedah close to resolving players’ salary arrears issue
PETALING JAYA: There is light at the end of the tunnel for the Kedah football team.
Kedah have almost wriggled their way out of the problem of players’ salary arrears that has been threatening to derail the team’s preparations for the 20242025 Super League season starting next month.
Tan Sri Daud Bakar, the majority owner of Kedah, stated that the management has managed to collect 90% of the amount required to pay off the remaining outstanding salary of 50%.
As a result, Kedah are now in the final stage of settling all financial arrears in 2023 and pay off the full arrears before April 20 to meet the conditions to maintain the national licence to compete in the Super League this season.
Daud thus urged their supporters to help Kedah find the remaining 10% of funds.
“On this occasion, we are asking for the help of fans and supporters to jointly help complete the amount of money required before April 20 through schemes that will be offered such as the sale of season passes, membership cards, pre-season jerseys, etc.
“At the club level, we sincerely hope that all stakeholders, especially the supporters, can help directly or indirectly in contributing to the club.
“Always buy and contribute to the club’s products by supporting every effort starting this pre-season until whenever,” he said in a press conference session in Alor Setar yesterday.
“I am confident that the remaining 10% can be resolved fast, we also always have a back-up plan such as plan B, plan C or plan D,” he added.
