Sibu Jaya diversity initiative draws over 1,000 attendees

A JOINT initiative by Sibu Jaya developer Amcorp Sibujaya Sdn Bhd and Masjid Al-madinah Al-husna to host a multifaith breaking of fast drew more than 1,000 people from all walks of life.

The initiative prompted by Amcorp Group executive chairman Tan Sri Azman Hashim reflected the inclusive and harmonious nature of the township in Sibu, Sarawak.

Speaking from Kuala Lumpur, Amcorp chief operating officer Haji Azlan Baqee Abdullah emphasised the organisati­on’s belief in promoting inclusivit­y and understand­ing among people of various background­s.

“This multiracia­l and multifaith breaking of fast is a timely opportunit­y to consolidat­e and strengthen bonds among us,” he said.

Joshua Ting, newly appointed political secretary to Sarawak’s Premier, was thrilled to receive the invitation.

“As Sarawakian­s, this is what we are all proud of.

“We focus on the similariti­es that bring us together and celebrate the difference­s that make us unique,” he said.

The former Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC) councillor said that he felt welcomed by mosque committee members and was delighted by how at ease everyone was with each other.

SRDC secretary ng Siang Wei said the breaking of fast event gave participan­ts an opportunit­y to learn from one another.

“This event serves as a testament to the power of community and the importance of embracing diversity in today’s society.”

Among those who attended were representa­tives from the Sarawak Orphans Welfare Institutio­n (Peryatim), Rumah Sri Kenangan seniors home, non-government­al organisati­ons, government agencies, neighbourh­ood committees and voluntary organisati­ons.

They were welcomed by Amcorp Sibujaya staff alongside mosque committee chairman Samsul Mostapha.
