IT IS anticipated that Malaysia will be represented in the EFG China Ladies Professional Golfers (CLPG) Qualifying Series, which begins in Singapore with the first of four events on May 27 and 28.

Supported by EFG Bank AG as new title sponsor, the tournaments will showcase professional talent and attract the interest of young amateur golfers too.

In partnership with LLD Sports, this also marks the first time the CLPG Q-series will be held outside China.

The dates of the other three events are yet to be announced.

The opener will be held at Laguna National Golf Resort Club, venue of the CLPG Tour’s Singapore Ladies Masters from June 14 to 16.

“We are delighted to partner with LLD Sports in bringing the EFG CLPG Q-series to fruition,” said EFG Asia-pacific executive chairman Albert Chiu.

“We believe the EFG CLPG Q-series will not only inspire the next generation of golfers but also contribute to the overall growth and development of this sport in South-east Asia.”

Inaugurated in 2020, the CLPG Q-series is a development circuit that serves as the qualifying pathway to the CLPG Tour.

The two-day tournament, with prize money of S$10,000 (RM35,100), will also serve as the qualifier for the Singapore Ladies Masters.

The 54-hole tournament will accommodate a field of up to 72 players, with a maximum of 18 participants from China.

EFG Bank AG has a long tradition of supporting young sporting talents in the region.

In Singapore, EFG is a longterm sponsor of the country’s leading touring golf professional, Koh Sock Hwee, and has strongly committed to supporting promising young golfers through a scholarship programme.

LLD Sports founder Lyn Yeo said numerous players in China had received US college offers after participating in the CLPG Q-series.

“And our top junior like Troy Storm, Bruce Kwong, Passion Hsu and Sydnie Ng are eager to capitalise on these opportunities,” she added.
