Perhilitan seizes ivory tusks, animal skin in home raid

-

A WEALTHY display of ivory tusks and animal skin worth nearly Rm1mil was seized from a luxury residence in Petaling Jaya, Harian Metro reported.

Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) director-general Datuk Abdul Kadir Abu Hashim said the surprise raid was conducted at midnight on April 16.

The owner’s son had initially refused to cooperate and the suspect tried to flee the scene in his car but police managed to track him down.

Abdul Kadir said 12 ivory tusks and a piece of protected wildlife skin were confiscated.

“The owner of the residence failed to produce a licence or permit allowing him to possess the elephant tusks and the skin of the protected wildlife.

“As a result, the man and his son were arrested and taken to the police station for further investigation,” he added.

> The daily also reported that influencer Izzad cherishes every Hari Raya Aidilfitri following his release from Henry Gurney School.

Izzad, whose full name is Muhammad Izzad Daniel Abdullah, was in rehabilitation for three years until 2019 for involvement in drugs and burglary.

Looking back, the 25-year-old said that celebrating Hari Raya in the school was a dark period of his life. “All the residents hoped that their family members would visit on the festive day. Thankfully, my family always came,” he said.

In 2017, during one of the visits, Izzad recalled vividly that he prostrated at his mother’s feet, crying and asking for forgiveness and her blessing.

“Throughout my teenage years, I rarely spent the festivity with my family. Instead, I was with friends,” he said.

Now, Hari Raya Aidilfitri is also a time of reflection for Izzad.

“If I had not been sent there, I might still be stuck in the same behaviour,” he said.
