A FOOD stall that started in USJ4 in 2021, has gained popularity among pork burger enthusiasts.

The stall is named Hambalang, meaning “everything” or “everyone” in Cantonese, with owner Jackson Ng Zer Hion, 28, saying it reflects how his food is made for everyone.

Before starting Hambalang, Ng initially sold Western food.

However, the aroma emanating from the stall opposite his which sold bak kwa (Chinese pork jerky) sandwiched in bread, captured Ng’s attention, making him recall his childhood.

Driven by his love for this sweet-savoury treat usually consumed for Chinese New Year, Ng set out to create his own version.

Ng’s sandwich of tender bak kwa, fried egg and chicken floss nestled within a soft bun, evokes a sense of comfort and nostalgia.

Now located within the new Kian Kiat Kopitiam in USJ9 of Subang Jaya, Selangor, Hambalang is the go-to spot for anyone seeking artisanal pork burgers or bak kwa sandwiches.

Stepping into the eatery, diners are greeted by the aroma of sizzling meat patties and bak kwa.

Hambalang’s handmade pork burger is a crowd favourite.

“Each patty is prepared by hand,” said Ng.

“The meat is ground and marinated to ensure it tastes better than typical fast-food patties.”

Ng’s creativity shines through with Hambalang’s signature item – the Hambalang Sandwich.

The hearty sandwich combines bak kwa, chicken floss, luncheon meat, ham, cheese, sausage and egg.

“This sandwich is guaranteed to satisfy big eaters like me,” said the stallowner.

Hambalang also offers various breakfast-inspired sandwiches, with fillings such as ham, luncheon meat, sausage and egg.

Last November, Hambalang expanded its presence to Kepong in Kuala Lumpur by launching a stall at Chang Cheng 8 Kopitiam.

Ng said Smoked Duck Sandwich would soon be added to Hambalang’s menu.

The stall is open daily from 7am to 3pm.

It accepts pre-orders and takeaway orders at 018-277 8770.
