Malay rulers extend condolences to Hanif’s family

PETALING JAYA: The Malay rulers have expressed their condolences to the family of former Inspector-general of Police Tun Mohammed Hanif Omar, who died early yesterday morning.

Among them were the Sultan of Pahang, Al-sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-mustafa Billah Shah, and the Tengku Ampuan of Pahang, Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah, Bernama reported.

“My condolences to the entire family of the late Tun Mohammed Hanif Omar, former Inspectorgeneral of Police.

“May the soul of the late Tun Mohammed Hanif be blessed by the grace of Allah SWT and be placed among the faithful and righteous,” the Sultan of Pahang and the Tengku Ampuan of Pahang wrote in a post on the Pahang Royal House Facebook page.

Hanif, 85, passed away at 2.15am yesterday due to kidney disease. He was appointed Malaysia’s fourth IGP at the age of 35 on June 8, 1974, and served in the post until Jan 15, 1994.

Also conveying their condolences were the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, and the Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor, Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin.

According to a post on the Selangor Royal Office’s Instagram page, Hanif had served as the Selangor Police Chief for two years, starting in 1971.

“In recognition of Mohammed Hanif’s services and contributions, the late Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah bestowed upon him the Dato’ Seri Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah (S.S.S.A.) award in 1992.

“Their Royal Highnesses pray that Mohammed Hanif’s soul be showered with divine mercy and be placed among the believers and the righteous,” it said.
