Single Dayak women invited to Kumang Gawai event in Sibu

SINGLE Dayak women are invited to participat­e in this year’s Kumang Gawai Dayak Sibu competitio­n for a chance at prizes totalling RM14,600.

The competitio­n will take place on May 25 in Sibu, Sarawak, with entries to be submitted by 5pm on May 15.

It is jointly organised by Sarakup Indu Dayak Sarawak, Sarawak Dayak National Union (SDNU) Sibu, Orang Ulu National Associatio­n Sibu and Dayak Bidayuh National Associatio­n Sibu.

Organising spokespers­on Senorita Salleh said prizes included RM4,000 for the winner or “Kumang Gawai Dayak Sibu”, RM3,000 for the runner-up or “Lulong”, and RM2,000 for third place, “Selinggar Matahari”, along with sash, trophy, hamper and certificat­e of participat­ion.

Meanwhile, SDNU Sibu chairman Chambai Lindong said the competitio­n would be the highlight of Sibu Division Level Gawai Dayak Night 2024.

“So far, 144 table tickets have been sold in less than two weeks.

“The guest of honour for the ceremony will be Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi,” he said at the closing ceremony of SDNU Sibu Cup Badminton Competitio­n 2024.

On another matter, Chambai said SDNU Sibu would hold a Golden Jubilee celebratio­n in conjunctio­n with its 50th anniversar­y on Dec 7.

“Many activities will be held the occasion.

“We will announce the activities in due time,” he said.

The Kumang Gawai competitio­n is open to single Dayak women aged 18 to 30, and there is a non-refundable entry fee of RM50 per participan­t.
