HONG KONG actress Maria Cordero (pic) claimed that she was “stupidly filial”, which ended up “killing” her mother, China Press reported.

The 70-year-old recounted her experience on social media platform Xiaohongshu, that her mother, in her old age, had wanted to live in an old folk’s home.

“My mother was smart. She found an old folk’s home when she started to have trouble walking and occasionally experienced incontinence.

“(She knew) it was better to have a doctor (nearby). I refused to let her go. I was stupidly filial!

“One day, my husband and I went on a four-day holiday in Thailand. My mother had diabetes and one of her scratch wounds had become infected, and it spread to her brain,” she said.

Cordero said she had a few staff, including a driver, looking after her mother at that time.

She felt the staff were able to care for her ailing mother although none of them was equipped with medical knowledge.

Having learnt her lesson, Cordero has made arrangements to move into an old folk’s home later in life.

Cordero, who is fondly known as Fat Mama, is largely retired from the entertainment scene but has her own online cooking show called Maria’s Kitchen.

She was married to Rick da Silva for 21 years before he passed away from pneumonia in 2021.

> A pet shop in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, was ordered by court to pay a pet owner T$60,000 (RM8,780) for selling a cat that has congenital disorders, China Press reported.

According to the claimant, whose surname was Shi, she bought a male Maine Coon named Towel from the pet shop for TW$120,000 (RM17,580) in January 2023.

However, she noticed that the cat suffered from a limp in May.

A medical check-up revealed that Towel suffered from hip dysplasia and other congenital disorders.

Surgery to correct the condition would cost Shi TW$190,000 (RM27,840).

However, the defendant claimed that the conditions were not innate and refused to pay for Towel’s medical bills.

Instead, Shi was offered a 50% discount if she chose to buy a second cat.

After bringing the matter to court, the Ciaotou district court in Kaohsiung ruled that the conditions Towel suffered from were congenital and that the pet shop should pay TW$60,000 (RM8,790) to Shi in damages.
