Woman seeks end to relentless stalking harassment
KUALA LUMPUR: A woman is pleading with her stalker to stop harassing her and her friends after enduring the unwanted attention for three years.
The 27-year-old, who only wanted to be known as Loh, said she got to know the man, known as Mr Tong, in 2020 when she was hosting live-streaming sessions to sell products online.
“He used to be a very supportive fan who came online every time I went live.
“However, things changed when I decided to stop doing live-streaming in 2021 to focus on getting a proper job,” she said at a press conference at the Wisma MCA here yesterday.
Loh, from Klang, said since she stopped going live, she switched her social media account settings to “private”, which apparently angered Tong.
“He could not see me online anymore, and he began stalking me, including my friends and family.
“He sent us messages; he took screenshots of our pictures and profiles. I had to restrict all my social media accounts to prevent him from seeing anything.
“Then, at one point, I decided to delete all my social media accounts because I felt that my privacy and that of my friends and family were infringed,” she said.
Loh’s ordeal took a turn for the worse in 2022 when she decided to resume hosting live-streaming shows again.
She claimed that Tong created different fake accounts on social media and began spreading her personal details and pictures around.
“He stalked all my friends, spread lies and left derogatory messages about me.
“I received so many calls asking me about the matter,” she said.
In his latest messages, Loh said Tong asked her in a text message if she had an insurance policy; otherwise, she should “increase her coverage”.
“He also asked if I had bought a coffin and if I was afraid of dying.
“At the same time, he continued to harass me online, spreading malicious comments about me, claiming I was a cheat and scammer.
“It affected my work. This is too
much, and I am worried,” she said.
Loh said she knew the harasser was the same man, as Tong had gone to the extent of transferring her only 5 sen in over 100 Touch n’ Go ewallet transactions, just to harass her.
“He kept up his antics to gain my attention and kept disturbing my friends and family.
“I really hope that he will stop,” she said, adding that she lodged three police reports between 2021 and 2024.
MCA Public Services and Complaints Department head Datuk Seri Michael Chong said he
has received the same complaints about the same perpetrator from at least 10 different victims so far.
“We managed to trace the perpetrator since there were more victims who provided us with information.
“I am sure there are more such victims. I urge them to come forward. Don’t suffer in silence, as such despicable behaviour must not be condoned,” he said.
Wanita MCA deputy chairman Tee Hooi Ling, who was also present, called on women not to share their personal data with anyone online, especially those that they know little about.
