IGP to meet Zahid over BFM video issue
PUTRAJAYA: Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar yesterday said he will meet with Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to discuss the action to be taken against BFM radio station which had allegedly uploaded a video that ridiculed Islam.
Commenting on the alleged clip which purportedly mocked the proposed implementation of hudud laws in Kelantan, Khalid said this was the second time the radio station had done this.
“At the end of last year, the radio station was fined RM10,000 by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) over an interview it carried with regard to the use of the word ‘Allah’”.
Khalid warned BFM to exercise greater care and added that what the reporter (Aisyah Tajuddin) had said could be interpreted as ridiculing Islam and hurting the feelings of the people. This could be subject to legal action.
He also said the police had received five reports on the controversial broadcast.
Khalid said the police would call up Aisyah and the script writer as well as those who had threatened Aisyah to assist in the probe.
On the 1MDB issue, Khalid said police was also conducting an investigation into it while the National Audit Department was undertaking the audit.
Although the police had wanted to conduct the investigation when the audit detected irregularities, a special squad on the case had met last Friday and decided to probe all information and reports pertaining to the issue, he told reporters after flagging off participants of the Kayuh Malaysia cycling event here yesterday.
Khalid said that besides the Commercial Crimes Division, the special squad also has the assistance of the Attorney-General’s Chambers and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
