‘Hadi broke his promise’
KUALA LUMPUR: A DAP MP has questioned the integrity of PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang’s commitment following the passing of the hudud amendments at last week’s Kelantan State Legislative Assembly.
Anthony Loke (DAPSeremban) claimed that Abdul Hadi had broken his promise by not notifying PAS’ proposed bill to Pakatan Rakyat leadership council.
Speaking at the Parliament lobby yesterday, he said Abdul Hadi had broken his word in sending a letter to the Dewan Rakyat secretary on the proposed bill to Parliament on March 18.
“This clearly shows that the letter was given on the same day the amendments to the Syariah Criminal Code II 1993 (Amendment 2015) Bill were tabled, and had not been approved by Pakatan presidential council,” he said.
Meanwhile, the DAP has been urged to stop interfering in the affairs of the Islamic religion, particularly in opposing the implementation of hudud laws in Kelantan.
The president of the Kelantan People’s Action Council, Che Azmi Mohd Ali, said the laws are the rights of the Muslims which did not need interference from others, reported Bernama.
“Stop the interference which can create racial tension,” he told reporters here yesterday.
Meanwhile, MCA vicepresident Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun yesterday reaffirmed the party’s stand against the implementation of hudud should a private member’s bill be tabled in Parliament.
She added that the seven MCA MPs are obligated to adhere to the party’s stand on the issue, and therefore will reject the bill.
