PAC hearing on 1MDB to go on NEXT WEEK, says deputy chairman
KUALA LUMPUR: The Public Accounts Committee’s hearing on the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) issue will continue as scheduled next week.
“The probe will still continue as PAC has enough quorum to continue despite former chairman Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed and three other members being made deputy ministers,” PAC deputy chairman Dr Tan Seng Giaw declared yesterday.
Besides Nur Jazlan, who is now deputy home minister, the other PAC members who have joined the government administration are Datuk Wilfred Madius Tangau, who was appointed science, t echnology and i nnovation minister; Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican, who was made deputy foreign minister; and Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin, who is now tourism and culture deputy minister.
“We still have nine members to carry out our responsibilities. It is inappropriate to stop the probe at this point,” Tan told a media conference in Parliament.
The nine remaining PAC members comprise four from Barisan Nasional (BN) and five from the Opposition.
The BN members are Datuk Abd Aziz Sheikh Fadzir (Kulim Bandar Baru MP), Datuk Liang Teck Meng (Simpang Renggam MP), Hasbi Habibollah (Limbang MP) and Datuk Wee Jeck Seng (Tanjung Piai MP).

PUTRAJAYA: A despatch rider, who was remanded for four days to facilitate investigations into 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB), has been released by the magistrate’s court.
Magistrate Nik Isfahanie Tasnim Wan Ab Rahim ordered the release of the 27-year-old man on a Malaysian AntiCorruption Commission (MACC) bail of RM50,000 with RM10,000 deposited in cash and RM40,000 on oral undertaking with two sureties.
The man, who was unrepresented, was detained at his house in Bentong, Pahang at 6pm on Sunday, under Section 16(a) of the MACC Act 2009.
Five other individuals, who were earlier detained by the MACC, have also been released on bail.
On Friday, a 39-year-old construction company director, who was the first to be detained in connection with the case, was released on MACC bail of RM100,000 with RM20,000 deposited in cash and RM80,000 on oral undertaking with two sureties.
On Saturday, a 54-year-old company managing director with the title of “Datuk”, was released on MACC bail of RM100,000 with RM20,000 deposited in cash and RM80,000 on oral undertaking with two sureties.
On Monday, a 28-year-old sole proprietor of a trading company was released on RM50,000 bail with RM10,000 deposited in cash and RM40,000 on oral undertaking with two sureties. – Bernama
