Time for some laughter

> Have a cracking good time at the very first LOL Fest presented by Tiger Radler, from now till Sunday

- BY JEREMY CHEONG

IN THESE trying times, get some much-needed laughter therapy at the very first LOL Fest, organised by LOL Events and presented by Tiger Radler. The festival features four days of comedy shows at The Bee or Black Box in Publika, Solaris Dutamas, Kuala Lumpur, starting today till Sunday.

Fans of standup comedy will get to see a good mix of both well-known and up-and-coming local and international performers such as Douglas Lim, Fakkah Fuzz, Kavin Jay, The Latecomers and Jarred Fell, among others.

These artistes will be offering a series of specially-produced and curated shows.

One of the highlights is the performance by a cluster of Japanese comedians from Yoshimoto Kogyo who are making their debut here.

Yoshimoto Kogyo is regarded as one of the biggest entertainment groups in Japan with over a 100-year history in the industry.

Malaysians will get to enjoy the performances of nine comedians from the group, each from varied comedy disciplines. They will perform in two speciallydesigned shows – one fully in Japanese, and the other in English or non-verbal.

The featured comedians for this act include senior pantomime artiste Kamiyama Ichirou and rhythm comedian Kumada Mashahi.

The two will be supported by seven comedians from the Sumimasu Geinin Project.

Another first-of-its-kind event happening at this festival is the ‘Laugh-a-thon’.

This unique show will feature some amazing local and international comedy talents in a six-hour special with more than a dozen performances.

Ticket-holders can stay on for all six hours of the Laugh-a-thon. However, each ticket is only good for one entry, so it is a good test of just how much comedy you can take.

The show promises audiences an entirely new experience when it comes to stand-up comedy.

It won’t be just all about the shows at the LOL Fest.

LOL Events will be holding a Charity Bash at The Square, Publika, this Sunday, for the whole family.

There will be family-based activities such as a bazaar and performances, as well as a charity auction, with proceeds donated to the NGOs White Elephant, aiding a home for diabled children in Taman Megah, and Red Bubbles, which supports and assists

children with cancer.

Meanwhile an exhibition,

themed Laughter Makes the World

Go Round, is currently on display at the Boulevard of Publika till Sunday. It includes photographs, cartoons, doodles, paintings, illustrations and digital images from local and regional artistes.

The exhibition explores the many different aspects of laughter as perceived through the eyes of these artistes from different disciplines and backgrounds.

It is also a look at humour and laughter, and what makes it so uniquely human.

Tiger Radler, as the fest presenter, has also prepared some exciting activities where visitors can win prizes by juggling lemons or by participating in the Spin to Win contest at the Lemon Garden at the Publika’s The Square.

All ticket holders are also entitled to a can of ice-cold Tiger Radler when they go for shows at The Bee or Black Box.

For tickets, which range between RM40 and RM120, visit the TicketPro Malaysia website. For more, visit the LOL Fest website.
