A storming debut
> Sher by Twenty3 launches the Derecho collection at KL Fashion Week
SHER by Twenty3, the signature line of fastgrowing fashion label Twenty3, made its Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week debut recently with a collection named Derecho.
Meaning “straight” in Spanish, the term also decribes
a linear storm cloud that may appear unassuming and ethereal at first glance, but packs force of a tornado. The duality conveyed by its moniker portrays the philosophy behind the Sher by Twenty3 line: Strength in Femininity. Derecho showcases 12 key looks in a palette built primarily of dusky hues and deep blacks, with hints of Tiffany blue. Sharp lines and structured angles lend an architectural sleekness to every piece, projecting a confidence that exemplifies the modern woman. That poise is carried through by the sturdiness of wool and tempered by the soft gauze of mesh. Floaty organza injects a hint of ephemerality, imparting a sheer lightness while holding firm to form.
The 12 looks offer a balance of form and texture that draws the gaze to subtle details injecting a sense of insouciance while maintaining a sporty persona. A razor cut offers a sly peek of hip bone. An asymmetrical romper presents an illusory extended silhouette. A sweater, paired with sarouel pants for a dose of athletic chic, is studded with angled sequins for an uncompromising utilitarian flair. A high-neck top that juxtaposes grace against the power of metallic geometric shapes is styled with an oversized boyish jacket, channeling the strength and pose of ballerina du jour, Misty Copeland.
Derecho is a manifestation of an empowered spirit, the very phisophy on which Sher by Twenty3 was built and which embodies the woman the label wants to dress: One who morphs seamlessly from work to working out.
It also reflects founder Sherlyn Tan’s personal struggles in the last year, which included a battle with depression that she overcame by embracing fitness as a lifestyle. “The Sher by Twenty3 woman is ambitious, confident, seeks out challenges and stands her ground, no matter what life throws her ways,” says Tan. “She strikes a sensible balance between work and an active lifestyle, and is just as at ease in tailored suits as she is in party dresses and workout gear.”
Derecho was shown as part of a multi-label Ready To Wear show at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur’s Centre Court, where the audience included more than 90 of Twenty3’s guests comprising media, celebrities and the brand’s loyal customers.
