Stop money politics: Subra
> MIC chief warns against vote-buying in party polls
KLANG: MIC chief Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam urged those vying for top party positions on Nov 7 to stop dabbling in money politics.
“Stop it immediately or face the consequences. Money politics will destroy the party,” he said.
It is learnt some candidates are throwing money in “thousands of ringgit” to secure victories.
“I will not tolerate it. It takes two to play money politics – the giver and the taker,” said Subramaniam, who warned that severe punishment will be meted out to those caught red-handed.
The party has just emerged from a crisis and it looks like it is plunging straight into another through “money politics”, he said on Tuesday when addressing some 500 Selangor delegates.
He said delegates ask for “donations” for temples or NGOs but pocket the money themselves.
“Imagine 20 or 30 contestants each giving “donations” ... how much a division chairman will make,” he said, adding there were individuals willing to give large sums of money just to win a seat.
To fight money politics, Subramaniam has released a “President’s List” of 23 CWC members from the total of 44 contestants.
“I have told delegates whom I want elected for the CWC. My list is fair and true,” he said, adding it was drawn up according to the size of states and their respective Indian population.
“But for the contests for the deputy president’s post and vicepresidency, I am leaving them open,” he said.
Four candidates are vying for the three vice-president’s spots and the No. 2 post is a straight fight between Perak speaker Datuk S. K. Dewamany and Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Datuk M. Saravanan.
