KUALA LUMPUR: Only “communist parties” and parties with “weak leaders” will investigate its members’ actions to ensure that they are not against the party or leadership.

Stating this, Umno veteran Datuk Seri Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah (BN-Gua Musang) stressed that he does not know if he is one of the seven being investigated by Umno.

“I don’t know. We leave it to fate,” he said.

“All organisations have rules, and they (members) are subjected to those rules and regulations.

“Organisations like trade unions and communist parties also have such rules. They investigate, track the movements (of members), particularly organisations with weak leaders, they want to make sure they follow them,” he told reporters outside the Parliament yesterday.

When asked if he was prepared to face the probe if he was one of the seven, Tengku Razaleigh said: “I am prepared for anything.”

“I have been in Umno longer than any of those people who are there today.”

He said Umno had gained its strength by having diverse-minded people in the party.

“I’ve heard that there’s a group of people wanting to get rid of (Umno deputy president Tan Sri) Muhyiddin Yassin. Whether it is true or not I don’t know.

“(But) we need everybody in order to strengthen the party. You have to tolerate people with different views,” Tengku Razaleigh said.

He said a party needs all its members to stay strong.
