DAP to continue support for Selangor

> State chairman urges members to back Pakatan Harapan coalition

KUALA LUMPUR: The “ad hoc” coalition and cooperation in Selangor will not last but the DAP will not be the cause of its downfall, said DAP Selangor chairman Tony Pua.

“The DAP will continue to work with the PKR to support the Selangor government,” he said,

“We must do this because the people want us to do it,” he said.

He said the Pakatan Harapan coalition which consists of DAP, PKR and Parti Amanah has replaced the dead Pakatan Rakyat coalition.

“This new Pakatan Harapan coalition is the coalition of the future. We must support it,” Pua said to applause from about 1,000 delegates at the Selangor DAP convention yesterday.

Delivering his opening address he said Parti Amanah was totally different from PAS.

“They are men and women of integrity, inclusiveness and entirely progressive in their approach to Islam,” he said, adding it is therefore DAP’s duty to support Amanah and not PAS.

He also said the DAP will contest eight state seats that were won by PAS in Selangor.

“Either these seats would be contested by DAP or by our ally Parti Amanah,” Pua said, adding DAP’s cooperation with Parti Amanah will also involve cooperation in many seats in Johor and the West Coast of Peninsular Malaysia.

He also said he looked forward to debating with IMDB president Arul Kanda Kandasamy on the IMDB controversies.

“We will work out the modalities of the debate – where, when and how,” he said, adding that, like the people, he too is anxiously waiting for the moment.
