Go Shop goes Chinese
> Astro Malaysia and South Korea’s GS Home Shopping’s latest collaboration sees the launch of a new Mandarin channel for 24-hour retail therapy
GO SHOP, a multiplatform shopping service operated by Astro GS Shop Sdn Bhd (AGSS), has launched the country’s first-ever Mandarin Go Shop Channel (channel 318 on Astro and NJOI) for a 24-hour retail experience.
Go Shop is a joint venture between Astro Malaysia Holdings Bhd and GS Home Shopping Inc of South Korea, a global leader in TV home shopping.
This latest channel is a follow-up to the successful launch of the 24-hour Malay-language channel and English-language online and mobile platforms in November last year.
This new channel offers audio-visual product demonstration that can be streamed on Astro TV, NJOI TV, Astro On-the-Go as well as online and mobile platforms anytime, anywhere.
Customers can watch product demonstrations on TV, browse for products online, and place orders via the 24-hour toll-free number or online.
Go Shop offers genuine products from trusted premium brands particularly from Korea and other top sellers in the international market.
The product range covers those for beauty, health and wellness to home appliances, kitchenware, lifestyle, sports, leisure, digital, and many more.
At the recent launch, AGSS chairman and Astro chief operating officer Henry Tan explained that before they launch the Mandarin channel, they undertook a pilot programme earlier to develop an understanding of the Chinese market and their shopping needs.
“We started with having two daily slots of Go Shop on weekdays on our leading channels Astro AEC as well as Xi Yue HD in August,” he said. “As a result of the positive feedback, we extended it to another channel.
“Today, we continue to build on the success of Go Shop with the launch of our Mandarin Go Shop Channel, [and] we are happy to be able to offer the Chinese-speaking community a rich and delightful shopping experience that our customers have come to know and love from Go Shop.”
Tan said that Go Shop has achieved an unrivalled
potential reach of 4.6 million households, which translates to 20 million viewers nationwide, through the help of Astro’s rich cross-media assets.
“TV contributes 80% while online and mobile commerce each adds 10% to our sales.
“More than 500,000 products have been ordered by 250,000 Malaysians during this period, and our online and mobile platforms have recorded 4.6 million page views monthly as of September 2015.
“In the first half of the financial year, Go Shop recorded RM75 million in revenue and is well on track to achieve its full-year revenue target of RM170 million by January 2016.
“We hope to keep growing and hit RM700 million by financial year 2020.”
GS Home Shopping Global Business Division senior vice president Cho Sunggo said their focus has always been to create a shopping environment that is exciting, convenient and accessible.
“We hope that more Malaysians will be able to benefit from our continuous search for quality products that can further enrich their lives, and we never stop thinking about new services that would provide added convenience to them,” said Cho.
Also present at the launch were AGSS chief executive officer Datuk Rozalila Abdul Rahman, Astro CEO Datuk Rohana Rozhan and GS Home Shopping CEO Kim HoSung.
This latest Go Shop channel will also feature popular Chinese personalities as hosts.
They include TV producer and host Ho Hai Chyi, dance choreographer and Astro Talent Quest 2003 runner-up Ezen Chan, former AEC news anchor Jenny Lim, Miss Astro Chinese International 2010 winner Emily Yap, actress-TV personality-radio announcer Emely Poon, MY FM radio host Catherine Ang and former copywriter-working mother Lim Ying Ling.
“These Go Shop hosts are local, trained to sell via TV and they undertake their own research on the products in order to localise the demo to better serve the customers,” said Tan.
