Eight face kidnap, murder charges

> No pleas recorded from accused, case fixed for remention on Dec 7

JOHOR BARU: Eight suspects, aged between 22 and 42 years old, including a woman were yesterday charged at the magistrate’s court with the kidnap and murder of a young businessma­n.

They were charged with murdering Cheung Zi Huong, 22, around 10.15pm on Sept 28 at No. 54, Jalan Hang Tuah 3, Taman Tun Aminah, here.

They were also charged with kidnapping the victim and demanding a RM50,000 ransom at No. 6, Jalan Sutera Utama, Skudai, at 1pm the same day.

Both charges for murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code and Section 3 (1) of the Kidnapping Act 1961 carry the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.

The deceased was a foreign exchange dealer and his body was found dumped near Taman Impian, Skudai.

The accused were Rajandra Samashi, 38, Young Gui Zhong, 23; Loo Wei Beng, 27; Lau Kkoon Ping, 42; Yew Hooi Lyn, 33; Andy Teoh Wet Lun, 22; Leong Chiew Yang, 34; and Lim Choon Ann 22. All hail from Johor Baru.

No pleas were recorded from the accused who nodded to indicate they understood the charges when they were read to them.

Magistrate Mohd Azlan Shah Allias fixed Dec 7 for remention as they were waiting for the post-mortem report.

DPP Noor Farhana Adham appeared for the prosecutio­n for the kidnap charges, while DPP Mohd Taufik Sabri prosecuted for the murder case.

Yew was represente­d by counsel Mohd Fazaly Ali Mohd Ghazaly and Yang by counsel G. K. Sritharan. The rest were unrepresen­ted.
