THE inaugural International Conference of Business and Management attracted more than 150 participants, including those from the African and Middle Eastern countries. Organised by Open University Malaysia (OUM) Business School, the conference provided a platform for academics and professionals from various fields to bridge the knowledge gap and promote relevant research findings on business strategies and solutions.
GLOBAL BUSINESS DISCUSSIONS
Along the theme “Strategic Solutions for Overcoming Challenges in the Global Business Environment”, 60 papers were presented across topics such as creative and innovative marketing, developing the right workforce, new ideas and approaches to economics, managing global organisations, leveraging on information technology, as well as accounting and finance for growth.
In his opening speech, OUM president and vice-chancellor Prof Emeritus Tan Sri Anuwar Ali said the conference was widely recognised as a premier forum for the presentation of new advances and research findings in the fields of economics, accounting, human resource management and business management. “Business in the new century remains one of the most important issues that need continuous attention and development. The business world we know today is becoming very competitive and challenging due to the unsettling global economy as businesses brace for difficult times ahead,” he said. “In business, change is inevitable for companies to move ahead. Failure to do so can lead to catastrophic results,” he added.
GATHERING OF GREAT MINDS
Also present at the event were Malaysian Directors Academy (MINDA) executive director and CEO Datuk Abdul Aziz Abu Bakar and Khazanah Nasional Berhad deputy chairman Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop, who delivered the keynote address.
The conference also marked the launch of the OUM International Journal of Business and Management, published by OUM Business School. The journal can be accessed via http://ijbm.oum.edu.my OUM Business School is one of the fastest growing faculties in OUM which offers both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes for working adults. Its programmes are offered in countries such as Vietnam, the Maldives, Ghana, Zambia, Yemen, Bahrain, Hungary, Somalia and Sri Lanka.
