Bersih rally: Maria Chin charged

KUALA LUMPUR: The organiser of Bersih 4.0 rally, Maria Chin Abdullah, was charged in the sessions court yesterday with failing to give prior notice to police before holding the assembly.

Maria, 59, who is also chairman of Bersih 2.0 rally, pleaded not guilty to the charge before judge Mat Ghani Abdullah. Maria, as organiser of the rally, was charged with failing to notify the Brickfields police 10 days prior to the assembly being held.

The assembly was held in front of NU Sentral shopping complex, Jalan Tun Sambanthan, Brickfields here between 2pm and 3pm on Aug 29 this year.

Mat Ghani set bail at RM5,000 and fixed Dec 11 for mention.

DPP Wan Shaharuddin Wan Ladin prosecuted, while lawyer Honey Tan Lay Ean represented Maria.
